The announcement
was made on Monday Afternoon about the new Prairie Fire Marathon; but, I really
don't know much more than what was reported in the Eagle on Tue Morning so I
won't bother to repeat it here. I do know that this marathon (and the related
events---marathon relay, half marathon, kids marathon, and Mayor's 5k) will be
much more work than in the past which means that many more volunteers will be
needed to insure a top quality event. I'll keep you informed of developments as
I hear about them.
It is essential for all of you evening runners to wear
reflective clothing to alert cars to your presence; but, if you run on dark
streets or paths, you will need a light to see the surface and other runners.
Big Lots is selling led headlights for $5 plus tax which is a great bargain and
they light up your running area quite nicely. If you run in my groups, I have a
few extra that I can sell you.
No races in the area this week.
The Turkey Trot
10 mile/2 Mile is next Sat (Nov. 21). You can still register at First Gear. Next
week, I'll include my usual hints to avoid being late, etc. Don't forget to buy
that 18 oz jar of peanut butter this weekend to bring to the race for the Food
Bank (another tradition of the Turkey Trot). In a normal year, they will collect
hundreds of jars for the needy. You're allowed to bring more than one jar if you
wish---the need is great this year and all of us would like for everybody to be
able to enjoy a peanut butter sandwich.
From the "It's later than you think"
file. If you've qualified and intend to go to the 2010 Boston Marathon, its time
to sign up, its filling up in record time this year. Also, for those wanting to
head south to Dallas in December for the White Rock Marathon/Half Marathon, it
is filling up rapidly, also.
There will a normal edition next week; but, no
edition Thanksgiving Week since most runners aren't in their usual groups and no
races.
With no races in the area this weekend, I would expect a full parking lot
at Health Strategies on Sat Morn at 7:00 am. All are welcome to join the group
in the parking lot at 551 N. Hillside. Many will do the traditional 7 miler to
the firehouse and back, others, longer or shorter.
The Sunday Derby Group will
meet at 7:30 am at the corner of Madison and Woodlawn in downtown Derby for a 10
miler. All are welcome to join Ken and his group. Water at the 5 mile mark.
The
Wed Night Group will meet at First Gear at 6:00 pm for a run through downtown
and the river paths. All are welcome.
The Thu Night Group will meet at 5:45 pm
at the North Chisholm Creek Park for a 5 miler on the K-96 Path. The park is
north of K-96 on the west side of Woodlawn. Everyone is welcome.
Have some good
runs and enjoy the nice weather while it lasts.
