We would like to
think that the worst of the winter weather is over; but, this is Kansas and
don't even think it. I know that a couple of our good runner friends had broken
pipes and considerable damage to their homes; but, I don't know of any runners
that had any personal injuries due to falls except for their pride.
To all of
those I saw running from Health Strategies last Saturday Morning, I have given
them the designation of "Kansas Tough." After all, if running was easy, they'd
call it football.
No races in the area for this weekend, this is normal
for Wichita in January.
Race 3 of the First Gear Cross Country Series is next
Saturday, Jan. 23, and the Super Bowl Sunday Run is on Feb. 7----in case you
haven't made the connection, that is the same day as the Super Bowl Football
Game; however, no need to worry, the race will be over long before all of the
hype that leads up to the game. You can find info about both races at www.runwichita.org.
Next Saturday, Jan. 23
is adidas day at First Gear----25% off all Adidas Shoes and Apparel plus those
cute and useful giveaways as long as they last.
Derby Running Club's Annual Not
for Wimps Event will be on Sunday, Feb. 14----if you haven't made a connection
to this date, I can't help you. It will have the usual tougher than nails 10
mile course and the 10k option for those who can't endure the extra 4 miles. The
usual refreshments after the race; but, no photos this year. We felt that they
had run their course after 3 years. Included in the entry fee this year will be
a black beanie with a no wimp embroidered logo on it.
I would expect a decent
group of thawed out runners at Health Strategies on Saturday at 7:00 am. You are
welcome to join the group in the parking lot at 551 N. Hillside.
The Sunday
Derby Group will meet at the corner of Madison & Woodlawn in downtown Derby
at 7:30 am for a ten miler. Everybody is welcome, water at the halfway point and
always plenty of conversation to forget about the cold.
The Wed Night Group will
meet at First Gear at 6:00 pm for a run through downtown and the river bike
paths. All are welcome to join the group.
The Thu Nite Group will meet at the
North Chisholm Creek Park at 5:45 pm for a 5 mile run on the K-96 Path. All are
welcome, the park is north of K-96 and Woodlawn on the west side of Woodlawn.
