This is know as a slow news day while we're waiting for the next snow storm to move into the area. No races in the area this weekend.
The St. Pat's Celebration starts off next week at Haysville with the Shamrock Shuffle 5k on Saturday, March 6. In the past, Wichita Runners have been reluctant to travel south of Wichita's City Limits to race in Haysville so if you like plenty of room to race, this one may be for you, info at www.runwichita.org.
As stated before, there are 3 running events on the following Saturday, March 13. Which one you pick would be a matter of personal choice. My guess is that the majority will like pizza and beer after the race and Hammer it down with Dave on the east side. All three are detailed on the above website.
I seem to be getting a lot of questions about the Wichita Half Marathon. As I understand it, its just the same race as before and has just moved from Sept. to April. Same sponsors, same course, etc. I think that the major problem will be those that will have to choose between Wichita and half/full marathon in Oklahoma City on the same day plus the women who will want to burn the Emma Creek Classic the day before the half.
I would expect a large group at Health Strategies on Saturday at 7:00 am. You are welcome to join the group that meets in the parking lot at 551 N. Hillside. Some run short, some much longer, just hop in. Panera afterwards for those who like a tasty reward after a good run.
The Sunday Derby Group will meet at 7:30 am at the corner of Madison & Woodlawn in downtown Derby for a 10 miler. All are welcome to run with the group, water at the 5 mile mark and always an interesting course.
The Wed Nite Group meets at First Gear at 6:00 pm for a run through the downtown area and the river paths. All are welcome to join the group. Most are fast; but, runners of all paces should enjoy it.
The Thu Nite Group meets at the North Chisholm Creek Park at 5:45 pm for a 5 miler on the K-96 path. All are welcome, the park is located north of K-96 and Woodlawn on the west side of Woodlawn.
Have some good runs, keep warm and safe.
