Ah, yes, the
Kansas Weather has thrown another cold blast of air at us so I hope that you
didn't prematurely pack away all of those nice warm running outfits. No races in
the City this weekend.
The Eisenhower Marathon is in Abilene this Saturday and I
know a few local marathoners who plan to run it.
The Leadership 5k is in
Winfield on Sunday if you need another 5k. More info on these races at www.runwichita.org.
The very popular Brew
to Brew Relay in Kansas City is this weekend so expect a lot of local runners to
be missing from the scene this weekend. Its too late for this year; but, if you
want a race that's a lot of fun, consider forming a team for B2B next year.
The
Link for Life Zoo Run 5k is next week on Saturday, the 17th. This is another
good 5k if you want to run one more of them.
The premier 5k of the spring is the
following week on Saturday, the 24th. It is, of course, The Emma Creek Classic
(sorry, guys, this is for women only). This is the race where every women who
might think that she's a runner shows up to run.
The following day on Sunday,
the 25th, is the annual Johnston's Wichita Half Marathon which was always a
Sept. Race in prior years. The same great race as in previous years plus chip
timing this year. Again, check the website for more info on these races.
Last
Saturday's Easter Sun Run was held in near perfect Kansas Weather and resulted
in good times and a record number of runners. Its possible that the race may
have to be moved because it is becoming too large for the Park to accommodate.
Probably a reduced crowd at Health Strategies on Saturday at 7:00 am due to the
events listed above; but, anyone is welcome to join the remaining runners in the
parking lot at 551 N. Hillside.
The Sunday Derby Group will meet at 7:30 am at
the corner of Madison & Woodlawn in downtown Derby for a 10 miler. Everyone
is welcome to join the group, Ken always has an interesting course and water at
the 5 mile point.
The First Gear Racing Team will meet at the Friends U. Track
at 6:30 pm on Wed for their track workout. Members are encouraged to attend.
The
Thu Nite Group will meet at 5:45 pm at the Chisholm Creek Park/Nature Center for
a 5 miler along the K-96 Path. All are welcome, enter the park from the east
side of Oliver between 29th St. and K-96 and follow the park road to the big
parking lot.
