Weak and Strong Runs--Taxing Run Ed.
    15 - APRIL 2010
For those of you who plan ahead, April 15 (Federal/State Income Tax Day) is no big deal. For those of us who work in the industry, it is a big deal because others don't plan ahead. In any case, it is always good to have a nice, relaxing run on April 15 to rid yourself of the extra stress, tension, and extra calories from that comfort food. I haven't heard a report on this year's Brew to Brew; but, I'm sure it was fun as usual. Speaking of reports, Tom S. wasn't able to participate in B2B this year since he was down South to attend a wedding  and run a race in the alligator infested swamps. He indicated that he picked up his pace everytime that he saw a gator crawl out of the water. I'm sure that he will have a story or two to tell when you see him.

One area race this weekend, the Link for Life Zoo Run 5k on Saturday. This is a good race ran within the Sedgwick County Zoo. If you hurry, you can still register at First Gear and save $5 over a race day entry.

Two major races in the area next weekend. The grandmother of the ladies races, the Emma Creek Classic 5k is on Saturday, April 24, at Hesston. Probably the best women's race in Kansas with plenty of food to eat while you wait for the best awards ceremony in Kansas. The Johnston's Wichita Half Marathon follows on Sunday, the 25th, in Central Riverside Park. Certainly, one of the best, if not the best half marathon in the state. You can register at First Gear (price increases $5 after this Saturday plus an additional $10 on race day).

All 3 of these races will have the BIBTAG Chip Timing. More info on the website, www.runwichita.org. The following week on Sunday, May 2, is the Derby High 5, it is a 5k in High Park in Derby and the largest race in Kansas, the River Run follows on Saturday, May 8.

I would expect a somewhat reduced crowd at Health Strategies on Saturday at 7:00 am with the above Zoo 5k plus the Boston Marathoners will be missing. You are welcome to join the group in the parking lot at 551 N. Hillside.

The Sunday Derby Group will meet at 7:30 am at the corner of Madison & Woodlawn in downtown Derby for a 10 miler. All are welcome to join Ken and his group.

The First Gear Racing Team will meet on Wednesday at 6:30 pm at the Friends U. Track for their weekly track workout. Team members are encouraged to join the workouts. We've had some good ones so far this year.

The Thur Nite Group will meet at 5:45 pm at the Chisholm Creek Park/Nature Center for a 5 miler on the K-96 Path. All are welcome to join the group, enter the park from the east side of Oliver between K-96 and 29th St. and follow the park road to the big parking lot.

Have some good runs this week.
