No races in the
area for this holiday weekend. If you're desperate to show your speed, there is
a 5k in Medicine Lodge on Monday. Info at www.runwichita.org.
I understand that the
Prairie Port Festival held in El Dorado the last weekend in July which included
a 5k has been cancelled. They had told us last year that it would probably be
cancelled after the '09 Festival. It was one of my favorite out of town races so
I'm sorry to see it go.
Next Saturday (5th) offers you plenty of choices to
race. The Race for the Arts 5k in Arkansas City; The East Meets West 5k in
Wichita; The Storm the Dam Trail Half Marathon and 5k in El Dorado; and, out of
the area; but, very popular with the Wichita Area Runners, The Hospital Hill
Half Marathon & 10k in Kansas City. Info on these races at the above
website.
In the near future, there's a 5k in Towanda on June 12th and a rare 8k
at the North Branch Y on the 19th. Again, info at the website above.
Another
good Seniors 5k at Botanica last night with the usual heat and humidity. A good
group of about 200 runners and a bunch of walkers. It is always a fun race for
those over 40. If you just turned 40 and were too shy to race this year, put it
on your list for next year. As usual, a lot of our younger friends were there to
cheer us on.
I would expect a good group at Health Strategies on Saturday at
7:00 am. All are welcome to join the group in the parking lot at 551 N.
Hillside.
The Sunday Derby Group will meet at 7:30 am at the corner of Madison
& Woodlawn in downtown Derby for a 10 miler. All are welcome to join Ken and
his group. An interesting course and water at the halfway point awaits you.
The
First Gear Racing Team will meet at the Friends U. Track on Wed at 6:30 pm. All
team members are encouraged to join the group. We've had bad weather for a
couple of Weds plus the Senior Race last night so we hope a good group will
return this coming Wed.
The Thu Nite Group will meet at the Chisholm Creek
Park/Nature Center at 5:45 pm for a 5 miler on the K-96 Path. All are welcome to
join the group, enter the park from the east side of Oliver between K-96 &
29th St. and follow the park road to the big parking lot.
