I, along with
thousands of others including a large group from Wichita, had a hill of a good
time at Kansas City's Annual Hospital Hill Run. Its a tough and demanding course
and its almost always hot and humid; but, the half marathon or 10k is a race
that no serious runner should miss. They had all kinds of food & drink on
the tables by the finish line, the stuff thats good for you, but tastes
terrible. The "fresh" food served was beer and BBQ. After a hot, humid race I
declined everything except water.
There's a 5k in Towanda this Saturday (12th)
at 7:30 am if you want to run another 5k. A rare 8k, the North Y's Rock and Run
is on the 19th.
Another 5k is in McPherson on the same day. The "Hammer It" 5k
in Park City on the 26th rounds out the 5ks for the month.
Derby Running Club's
Firecracker 4 Mile & 1 Mile will be on Sunday, July 4, at High Park, in
Derby. Since I'm the race director, this is a shameless promotion, of course.
The Firecracker will have new courses for both races which will make them safer
and faster, we think that you will love the new courses. We have a great short
sleeve dri-release race shirt plus special shirts for the volunteers. It will be
Derby's first chip timed race plus new custom designed awards. All of this plus
plenty of good food and drink for the same low entry fee that we've had since
2007. Registration will be available next week or you can sign up at active.com
now, www.active.com/running/derby-ks/derby-firecracker-2010.
Hope to see you, we'll leave the heat on for you. Did I mention no advertising
on the shirt?
I would expect a good group at Health Strategies on Saturday at
7:00 am. Everyone is welcome to join the group in the parking lot at 551 N.
Hillside. A big group will do the firehouse and back 7 miler; but you can pick
your own distance.
The Sunday Derby Group will meet at 7:30 am at the corner of
Madison & Woodlawn in downtown Derby for a 10 miler. You are welcome to join
the group on any Sunday, always an interesting course and water at the 5 mile
mark.
The First Gear Racing Team will meet at the Friends U. Track on Wed at
6:30 pm for their weekly track workout. Members should come out and enjoy the
fun and fellowship.
The Thu Nite Group will meet at 5:45 pm at the Chisholm
Creek Park/Nature Center for a 5 miler on the K-96 Path. All are welcome to join
the group, enter the park from the east side of Oliver between K-96 & 29th
St and follow the park road to the big parking lot.
