Some upfront news
here: First Gear will be closed on Saturday (July 3) so if you need to register
for the Firecracker Run or pick up shoes or needed supplies, you will need to do
it by closing time on Friday. Along the same lines, the Derby Rec Center will be
closing at 1:00 pm on Saturday so you won't be able to register for the races
after that time, either.
There's a new race later this month. The American
Cancer Society's Run For Life 5k and 1 mile fun walk will be held in Derby's
High Park on Saturday, July 17, at 8:00 am. This is part of the "Celebrating
Brithdays One Step at a Time" campaign. It will be the 2nd Derby Race to feature
Bibchip Timing. You can contact amyracchini@sbcglobal.net for more
info.
This holiday weekend features a race on Saturday and Sunday. Newton's
Chisholm Trail 5k is on Saturday at 7:30 am at the Newton Medical Center.
Derby's Firecracker Run 4 Mile & 1 Mile is on Sunday (the 4th) at 7:30 am at
High Park. Still a good supply of those great dri-release shirts left for late
registrants; but, see above for limitations on Saturday Registrations.
Next
Saturday, July 10, is Wellington's wHeat Run 5k & 1 Mile. John always puts
on a good race so head south next weekend if you want to race.
The Heel 2 Heal 2
Mile is on the 24th. As always, check www.runwichita.org for more info on these
races.
With the area races this weekend, I would expect a reduced group at
Health Strategies on Saturday at 7:00 am; but, still plenty of runners to run
with. All are welcome to join the group in the parking lot at 551 N. Hillside.
The Sunday Derby Group which meets at the corner of Madison & Woodlawn in
Downtown Derby for a 10 miler is changing the starting time to 6:30
am until Labor Day. However, I would not expect many runners at the run
this Sunday since most of the group will be running or volunteering at the
Firecracker Run.
The First Gear Racing Team will meet at the Friends U. Track on
Wed at 6:30 pm for their weekly track workout.
The Thu Nite Group will meet at
the Chisholm Creek Park/Nature Center at 5:45 pm for a 5 miler on the K-96 Path.
All are welcome to join the group, enter the park from the east side of Oliver
between K-96 and 29th St. and follow the park road to the big parking lot. Have
some good runs.
