The cool,
delightful weather makes us feel like you're going to pay for it with 100 degree
days later in the summer, right? A word to the wise, don't let a good running
day pass you by. Plenty of racing activity in the area this weekend.
The annual
East meets West 5k is at 8:00 am on Saturday (June 6) at Exploration Place. This
is a good race if you're looking for a 5k to test your conditioning. The race
moved from Memorial Day Weekend in Old Town several years ago and most of the
serious competitive runners never moved with it and the event is populated with
senior walkers mostly. (Note: this is a hint to trophy hunters).
The new Storm
the Dam Trail Half Marathon and 5k at the El Dorado Lake State Park Dam at El
Dorado is this Saturday, also. The course is on a trail so you should expect it
to be challenging. Since it is inside a state park, I would assume that you
would have to pay a fee to get into the park----so carry a few extra bucks with
you just in case and a good reason to car pool.
Some will be making the annual
trek to the Hospital Hill Run in Kansas City. I understand that registration is
closed for that event this year.
The June Bug Jog 5k is next Saturday, June 13,
at 8:00 am in Winfield. A good no-frills small town race.
A trio of races on
June 20 which I reported last week: the YMCA's Rock and Run 8k at the North Y
(3330 N. Woodlawn); the Park City Builder's 5k at Hap McClean Park (6801 N.
Hydraulic); and the Farmers State Bank 5k at McPherson Water Park in McPherson.
I would expect the group at Health Strategies on Saturday Morning at 7:00 am to
be light due to the races listed above; but, all are welcome to join what's left
of the group that meets in the parking lot north of the building.
The Sunday
Derby Group will meet at the corner of Madison & Woodlawn in downtown Derby
at 7:30 am for a ten miler. You are welcome to join the group for an interesting
course with water provided at the 5 mile mark.
The First Gear Racing Team
continues to meet on Wed at the Friends U. Track at 6:30 pm. Team members are
encouraged to join with the others to help improve your race speed.
The Thu Nite
Group will meet at 5:45 pm at the Chisholm Creek Park/Nature Center for a 5
miler along the K-96 Path. All are welcome to run with us, enter the park from
the east side of Oliver between K-96 and 29th St. and follow the park road to
the big parking lot. Cold water after the run.
Have some good
runs.
