It appears that
the weather wants to alternate between severe weather and 100 degree days so I
guess that we have to be prepared for anything.
A couple of 5k races in the area
on Saturday this weekend. Wellington's wHeat Run 5k is at 7:30 am at Hargis
Creek Watershed and is followed by a one mile at 8:30. This 5k is run on a cross
country course so if you love to run cross country races, this is your
chance. Race Director is John Anders, Boston Marathoner and elite runner, you
can contact him at janders@sutv.com. The
other 5k is the Run to Cheney in Cheney. The 5k starts at 7:30 am and is
followed by a one mile. Race director is the capable Richie Simmons, you can
contact him at rsimmons@cheney268.com.
No races in the
area next week.
The following week on the 25th is a trio of races. First out of
the chute at 7:00 am is the Run for Your LIfe 5k and 1 mile predict in El
Dorado. A favorite among the runners in my groups, it is a well run race, no
frills, and a lot of fun. There's always more excitement in the predict mile
than the 5k. The annual Heel 2 Heal 2 Mile is at 8:00 am at St. Mark UMC,
Wichita. If you're looking for a two mile, this is a good one. A new race, the
Kansas Shrine Bowl 2 Mile is at WSU and starts at 6:25 pm. This
race is primarily a fund raiser with a high entry fee during the heat of the day
so judge it accordingly.
The area's only run and shoot event is on Sunday,
August 2. Derby Running Club's Summer Biathlon 5k is at Lake Afton and the
safety clinic (mandatory) gets underway at 7:30 am.
Was good to see so many of
you at the Firecracker Run on the 4th, the early morning rain was a major
concern for us; but, it turned out to be a nice day to run and we all had a lot
of fun.
The two 5k races above will diminish the runners at Health Strategies on
Saturday Morning at 7:00 am; but, it should still be a good group. I will be
there with the Pink Ponytails and the Douglass Flashes for the traditional 7
miler to the firehouse and back, Panera afterwards, of course. You are welcome
to join the group as they meet in the parking lot north of the building at 551
N. Hillside.
The Sunday Derby Group will meet at the corner of Woodlawn &
Madison in downtown Derby at 7:30 am for a 10 miler. All are welcome to join Ken
and his group, water provided at the 5 mile mark.
The First Gear Racing Team
will meet on Wed at 6:30 pm at the Friends U. Track for their weekly track
workout.
The Thu Nite Group will meet at the Chisholm Creek Park/Nature Center
for a 5 miler on the K-96 Path. You are welcome to join the group, enter the
park from the east side of Oliver between 29th St. & K-96 and follow the
park road to the large parking lot.
Cold water and conversation after the run.
Keep alert out there, you can catch me on the run.
