Can you believe
it? The summer is half gone already! Speaking of almost gone----the Wed Nite
Track Workout Group is going to gather at Playa Azul (111 N. Washington) in Old
Town next Wed, July 29, to have dinner with Meredith before she leaves our city
for her new job back east. We will start after our workout, about 8:00 pm, feel
free to join us even if you don't work out with us next Wed.
A lot of racing
activity this weekend in the area.
El Dorado's Run for your Life 5k and 1 mile
predict starts with the 5k at 7:00 am and the predict mile is at 8:00. The race
starts at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital, 720 W. Central, in El Dorado
(Central is Hwy 254) just head east on 254 until you see the hospital---can't
miss it unless you're still asleep that early in the morning. A good no-frills
race if you're looking for a good 5k.
The annual Heel 2 Heal 2 Mile is at 8:00
am Saturday at St. Mark UMC, 1525 N. Lorraine. This is a very good 2 mile with
lots of awards and breakfast.
The Kansas Shrine Bowl 2 Mile is at 6:25 pm on
Saturday at WSU.
The Summer Biathlon (Run & Shoot) is on Sunday, August 2,
at Lake Afton, at 7:30 am. If you like the combo of running and shooting, this
is the one for one. There's not another one in this part of the country.
Saturday, August 8, has a trio of area races: Wichita's Can You Beat Don? 5k in
far east Wichita; Clearwater Summer Scorcher 5k and one mile in Clearwater; and
the Run for your Momma Half Marathon and Relay at the Marion County Lake in
Marion.
With the races in the area on Saturday, I would expect a small crowd at
Health Strategies on Saturday at 7:00 am.
The Sunday Derby Group will meet at
7:30 am in Derby at the corner of Woodlawn & Madison for a ten miler. All
are welcome to join Ken and his group, water will be served at the 5 mile mark.
The First Gear Racing Team will meet at the Friends U. Track on Wed for their
weekly workout at 6:30 pm. It will be our last time with Meredith (see note
above) so let's have a good group to send her on her way.
The Thu Nite Group
will meet at 5:45 pm at the Chisholm Creek Park/Nature Center for a 5 miler on
the K-96 Path. You are welcome to join us, enter the park from the east side of
Oliver between K-96 and 29th St. and follow the park road to the big parking
lot. Cold water and conversation after the run.
Have some good runs, look for me
in the shade.
