A rare cool day
in July today so get in a good run. A large group of us gathered last night to
eat, drink, and give Meredith an appropriate sendoff as she leaves us for that
dream job in Virginia. Best of luck, Meredith, we will miss you.
No races in the
area this Saturday.
The Summer Biathlon is at Lake Afton on Sunday (Aug 2). The
event takes place at the Young Hunter Safety Shooting Range west of the
Observatory on the north side of the lake. Registration is at 7:00 am followed
by a mandatory safety clinic and shooting practice. Event starts at 9:00. A
unique event for this part of the U.S. If you like to run and shoot, don't miss
it.
A choice of 3 runs next Saturday (8th): Wichita's "Can you Beat Don?" 5k at
Johnson's, 12111 E. 21st (K-96 & 21st) at 7:30 am; Clearwater's Summer
Scorcher 5k and 1 Mile at 7:00 am and Marion's Run for your Momma Half Marathon,
relay and 2 mile run. You can contact momma at mopsofmarion@gmail.com. Mulvane's Old
Settlers 4 mile is on the 15th and Oxford's Lions Club 4 mile and 2 mile is on
the 22nd. I along with a bunch of the Pink Ponytails among others had a good
time at the El Dorado 5k last Saturday, but we were missing Paul. It seems that
he went to a resort and had a great time instead of running the race. What is
the world coming to??
I would expect a good group at Health Strategies on
Saturday at 7:00 am. I along with the Ponytails and the Douglass Flashes will be
there for the traditional 7 miler to the firehouse and back with Panera
afterwards. All are welcome to join the group in the parking lot north of the
building at 551 N. Hillside. There will be various distances and speeds by the
individual runners.
Guru Ken and others from the Sunday Derby Group will be at
the Biathlon on Sunday Morning. A Wichita Option is available on Sunday Morning
at 6:30 am for the Derby Regulars if you wish. Let me know if you're interested
(email below).
The First Gear Racing Team continues to meet on Wed at 6:30 pm at
the Friends U. Track. Team members are encouraged to join the workouts, summer
running is always better with a group.
The Thu Nite Group will meet at 5:45 pm
at the Chisholm Creek Park/Nature Center for a 5 miler on the K-96 Path. All are
welcome to join the group, enter the park from the east side of Oliver between
K-96 and 29th St. and follow the park road to the big parking lot. Cold water
and conversation after the run.
