Last Sunday's Run
and Shoot Biathlon was just about at capacity as they enjoyed some very cool
August Weather. Several readers of this email won some of the beautiful awards
that were given out including Meredith in her last Wichita Race before heading
for the East Coast.
The late summer/fall racing schedule is in full swing with 3
area races this Saturday.
Wichita's Can You Beat Don? 5k is at 7:30 am at
Johnson's, 12111 E. 21st (K-96 & 21st). This is an age-graded/handicap type
of run where everybody tries to catch Don's Butt. In the unlikely event that
you're older than Don, he will try to catch you as well as stay ahead of
everybody else. We had some of these types of races over 25+ years ago and they
were a lot of fun so I'm looking forward to this one. You can bop out and I'll
register you Saturday Morning starting at 6:30.
The Clearwater Summer Scorcher
5k and 1 Mile starts at 7:00 am with the 1 mile and the 5k follows. Find the
water tower in Clearwater and the race is next to it. Its a nice course and they
have a t-shirt option this year if you're budget minded.
The Run for your Momma
Half Marathon and 2 mile fun run is in Marion at the Marion County Lake. The
half gets underway at 7:00 am and the fun run follows at 8:30. This is a new
race so we don't have any history on it.
The annual Mulvane Old Settlers 4 Mile
and 1 Mile is next Saturday, August 15, in Mulvane. It's a no-frills event with
a good, fast course.
The Oxford Lions Club 4 mile and 2 mile Runs are on Aug.
22, in Oxford, at the High School, 500 N. Michigan. Both races start at 7:30 am.
This is another no-frills event. The course is half dirt and is never in ideal
condition; but, the people are friendly.
The Black Arts Festival 5k is at Grove
Park on Saturday, Aug 29. The Sand Creek 2 Mile in Newton is on the 29th, also.
With the three races listed above I would expect a small group at Health
Strategies on Saturday at 7:00 am, nearly all the runners I know will be at the
races or doing marathon training.
The Sunday Derby Group will meet at 7:30 am at
the corner of Madison & Woodlawn in downtown Derby for a ten miler. All are
welcome to join Ken and his group. Water at the half way point of an interesting
course.
The First Gear Racing Team continues to meet at 6:30 am on Wednesdays at
the Friends U. Track. All team members are encouraged to come out and join the
group.
The Thu Nite Group will meet at 5:45 pm at the Chisholm Creek Park/Nature
Center for a 5 mile run on the K-96 Path. All are welcome to join the group,
enter the park from the east side of Oliver between K-96 & 29th and follow
the park road to the big parking lot.
Have some good runs.
