First, some old
news that new. Results from Oxford and El Dorado's Run for your LIfe have been
received and posted on the Run Wichita Website.
Run for your Life has posted
about 175 photos from the race on the hospital website, www.sbamh.com. There's a link on the front page
to the race results and photos. Some of them are very good. I think that Eddie
has some kind of a connection since he's in about 8 of the photos plus many
other photos of readers of this email.
The JAK race will not happen this year. I
was informed that the race director who was the driving force behind the race
has moved out of the area.
I have had a lot of questions about the course for
the Wichita Marathon next year and I have the latest. It will be announced at a
meeting in late Sept---so there you have it. The real issue here, of course, is
whether or not it will continue to be run on the air base. A lot of comments we
get from the marathoners, good or bad, concern the air base. In any case, we
really appreciate the efforts involved by the personell on the base to provide a
safe and secure environment for our marathoners and realize that so many of the
Air Force Members have donated hundreds of hours of their free time to work on
the planning and execution of the middle third of our marathon. It would not
have been possible without their supreme efforts.
The only race in the area for
this holiday weekend is the Dream Big 5k. It has moved from the east side to the
west side and will be held at New Market Square (21st & Maize). The 5k
starts at 8:00 am and a one mile starts at 8:50.
Next week, on the 12th, is the
14th Annual Horsethief Canyon Trail Run--about 6.5 miles at the Kanopolis State
Park. The lazy won't run this race; but, you may be lame afterwards.
A safer and
less exciting race on the 12th is the Running into Fall 5k at Haysville. Race
starts at 8:00 am at Seneca and Fager in Haysville. You can contact Kelsey at kblue@haysville-ks.com for more info.
On the 20th (Sunday) is the best half marathon in Kansas as the 32nd Annual
Wichita Half Marathon gets underway in Central Riverside Park at 8:00 am. There
is a new course this year designed to accomodate the ever increasing number of
runners. This is the half to run this year---assuming that you've been training.
The group at Health Strategies on Saturday Morning at 7:00 am has diminished
somewhat because of the weekly races and those doing fall marathon training;
but, some will be there for the traditional 7 miler to the firehouse and back.
You are welcome to join the group.
The Sunday Derby Group will meet at 7:30 am
at Madison and Woodlawn in downtown Derby for a ten miler. You are welcome to
join the group, an interesting course and water at the 5 mile awaits you.
The
First Gear Racing Team continues to meet on Weds at the Friends U. Track at 6:30
pm for their track workout. Only a couple of more left so don't put it off.
The
Thu Nite Group will meet at the Chisholm Creek Park/Nature Center at 5:45 pm for
a 5 miler on the K-96 Path. You are welcome to join the group, enter the park
from the east side of Oliver between K-96 and 29th St. (directly across from the
new Rainbow United Complex) and follow the park road to the main parking lot.
